Free legal advice at the police station
This website provides general information and telephone numbers. It is not legal advice.
If you are arrested or voluntarily attend a police station for interview, you have the right to free legal advice.
This applies whether you are under arrest or attending voluntarily. The advice is free and independent.
You can ask for the duty solicitor, or contact your own solicitor if you have one. The police should help you contact a solicitor.
You do not have to answer questions without a solicitor present, although the interview may sometimes go ahead if you choose to proceed without one.
